Gleneagles Targets QEII
Coolmore’s Dual G1 2000 Guineas winner Gleneagles (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) is set to have his next run in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. at Ascot British Champions Day Oct. 17. Aidan O’Brien’s star miler has not been seen since landing the G1 St James’s Palace S. at Royal Ascot in June, with ground conditions scuppering plans to run in the G1 Sussex S. and likewise eagerly-awaited clashes with Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}) over 10 furlongs in the G1 Juddmonte International and G1 Irish Champion S.
O’Brien said, “He’s probably going to be trained for the mile race at Ascot. At the moment that’s what we are thinking.”
On missing his intended engagements over the last couple of months, O’Brien added, “It’s not ideal, but what can we do. That’s just the way it is.”
Should Gleneagles take his chance, it would set up a likely clash with Freddy Head’s stable star Solow (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}), winner of his last eight starts, including the Sussex S.
